HIPAA 5010 Testing

HIPAA 5010 X12 and NCPDP D.0 Testing

Testing is now available for Providers and Vendors.  Testing 5010 transactions is required and highly encouraged.  

The following transaction types are currently available for testing through the Trade Files option via the testing website:

  • 270 Eligibility Request / 271 Eligibility Response
  • 276 Claim Status Request / 277 Claim Status Response
  • NCPDP D.0 B1, B2, E1 Pharmacy Submissions      
  • 278 Prior Authorization Request and Response   
  • TA1 Interchange Acknowledgment
  • 999 Functional Acknowledgement Transaction
  • 837 Professional Claim Submission *new*
  • 837 Institutional Claim Submission *new*
  • 837 Dental Claim Submission *new*
  • 835 Electronic Remittance Advice *new*

The following transaction types are currently available for testing interactively:

  • 270 Eligibility Request/ 271 Eligibility Response *new*
  • NCPDP D.0 B1, B2, E1 Pharmacy Submissions *new* 

835 Remittance Advice Testing

Full End to End Testing is now available to those interested in submitting a claim for adjudication and inludes receiving a test 835 Remittance Advice in return.

  • Please submit claims transactions with an ISA15 Interchange Usage Indicator value of a "P" if an 835 is desired.
  • 835 files will be avaible for download through the trade files option on the web portal each Friday after 3:00 pm.
  • To ensure the claims submitted will be available on the 835 a link between the Trading Partner ID and the Provider ID submitted in the claims transactions must be established. Once the form listed below has been submitted and processed, an email response will be returned infroming the submitter that end to end testing may be started.

Test Monitoring and Status Reporting
Alabama Medicaid will be monitoring the testing efforts and requests that everybody testing please fill out the 5010 Testing Status spreadsheet available on this page and return it via email to the EMC Help Desk by 5:00 p.m. CST each Friday at AlabamaSystemsEMC@hp.com.

There is a column to list any issues or concerns found during testing which will be reviewed to determine if there are any necessary changes.

This is essential in order to move into production with 5010 transactions.

Test Setup
Please contact the EMC Help Desk prior to starting testing as a minimal amount of setup must be done for each Trading Partner prior to the submission of 5010 transactions.

Full install and upgrade files for the Provider Electronic Solutions Software (PES) version 3.0 are available by clicking here, OR from the Alabama Medcaid Provider Portal by navigating to "Information" and clicking on "AL Links."
