Recipients in certain Alabama counties may
voluntarily choose to participate in a Medicare
Advantage plan. Medicaid has contracts effective
January 1, 2006 with four
federally-approved Medicare Advantage plans,
three HMOs and one PPO. Medicaid pays the plans a
capitation fee for each recipient in a
particular program. By this fee, Medicaid avoids
payment of Medicare co-payments, co-insurances
