Rural Health Clinics (RHCs)

There are two types of rural health clinics: Independent and Provider Based. Services include any medical service typically furnished by a physician in an office or a home visit.

Services provided by Independent Rural Health Clinics  (IRHC) include those provided by physicians, nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants during the clinic's normal operation.

Provider Based Rural Health Centers (PBRHC) are an integral part of a hospital, skilled nursing facilities, or home health agency. Services may be provided by a physician, physician assistant, nursing practitioner, certified nurse midwife, and/or specialized nurse practitioner.
